Abstract
Težnja za ujedinjenjem cjelokupnog europskog kontinenta, na kojem bi granice postojale samo na zemljovidima, moguća je upravo ostvarivanjem ideje schengenskog prostora. U ovom diplomskom radu obrađen je pojam i režim schengenskog prostora kao teritorija na kojem ne postoje unutarnje granične kontrole. Daje se pregled povijesnih ugovora koji su prethodili razvitku i kreiranju ovog jedinstvenog područja, a posebna pažnja je posvećena Schengenskim sporazumima kao aktima koji su precizno definirali... More uvjete pod kojima ovakva zajednica država može funkcionirati. S obzirom na to da uklanjanje granica istovremeno znači potrebu izgradnje povjerenja među državama članicama i stvaranje sigurnog okruženja, pojašnjava se funkcija uspostavljenih mehanizama poput Schengenskog informacijskog sustava te suradnje policijskih i drugih državnih tijela u očuvanju te sigurnosti i zaštite granica. Obrazlaže se pojam schengenske evaluacije kao postupka provjere kojim se utvrđuje da li pojedina država članica pravilno provodi politiku Europske unije. U zadnjem dijelu je prikazan i put Republike Hrvatske u nastojanju da postane dijelom velike schengenske obitelji, u čemu je naposljetku i uspjela. Less
Abstract (english)
Aspiration to unite all of Europe, where borders would exist only on maps is only possible with fulfilling the idea of Schengen Area. In this master thesis the term and regime of Schengen Area as a territory where there is no internal border control has been presented. There is a historical overview of agreements that preceded the founding and development of this one of a kind area, with a particular attention to Schengen Agreement as an act which has precisely defined the conditions under... More which this union of countries can function. Removing borders implies also building trust between member states and creating a safe environment. This thesis explains the functions of established mechanisms such as Schengen Information System, and cooperation of police and other national authorities to preserve that safety and protect the borders. The term Schengen evaluation is defined as a procedure which determines if any given member state is correctly implementing European Union policies. Final chapter presents Republic of Croatia’s path to become a member state of the Schengen family in which they succeeded at last. Less
