The European Commission is one of the seven key institutions of the European Union whose task is not only to ensure smooth functioning, but also to monitor and adapt to the situations and needs, both on the global level and on the level of the individual Member states. This politically independent body has numerous roles and its decisions directly or indirectly affect everyday life within the member states of the European Union, one of which is the Republic of Croatia. This work, in addition to the extensive history of the Commission, also presents in detail the way it works and functions, as well as its current structure. The work also highlights distinguished individuals whose work influenced the entire world. The paper also describes the Commission's cooperation with other EU bodies, as well as the limitations and possibilities of the Commission during this cooperation. Furthermore, the paper discusses possible future changes in the said structure of the Commission and, based on current knowledge, attempts to present the future of the European Commission within both the European and global context.
