Abstract
Europski sud za ljudska prava (ESLJP) ključna je institucija za zaštitu temeljnih ljudskih prava u Europi. Utemeljen Europskom konvencijom o ljudskim pravima, ESLJP omogućava pojedincima pristup međunarodnoj pravdi kada domaći pravosudni sustavi ne uspiju osigurati zaštitu njihovih prava. Svojom praksom Sud donosi presude o pitanjima kao što su pravo na pravično suđenje, sloboda izražavanja i zaštita privatnosti, što je pridonijelo ujednačavanju pravne zaštite u zemljama članicama Vijeća Europe. Protokoli uz Konvenciju, kao i katalog zajamčenih prava dodatno proširuju suradnju između nacionalnih sudova i ESLJP-a, jačajući njegovu ulogu u europskom pravosudnom sustavu. Posebno je značajan i za Hrvatsku jer omogućava građanima da zatraže pravdu pred međunarodnim tijelom, čime se potiče unapređenje domaćeg pravosuđa i vladavine prava.
Abstract (english)
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is a key institution for the protection of fundamental human rights in Europe. Established by the European Convention on Human Rights, the ECtHR enables individuals to access international justice when domestic justice systems fail to ensure the protection of their rights. Through its practice, the Court renders judgments on issues such as the right to a fair trial, freedom of expression and privacy protection, which contributed to the uniformity of legal protection in the member states of the Council of Europe. The protocols to the Convention, as well as the catalog of guaranteed rights, further expand the cooperation between national courts and the ECtHR, strengthening its role in the European judicial system. It is particularly significant for Croatia as it enables citizens to demand justice before an international body, thereby encouraging the improvement of domestic justice and the rule of law.
