Abstract
Konvencija Ujedinjenih naroda o pravu mora donesena 1982. g. uvela je isključivi gospodarski pojas kao novi pravni režim i institut međunarodnog prava mora. Sve obalne države imaju pravo proglasiti svoj isključivi gospodarski pojas na temelju Konvencije i na temelju običajnog međunarodnog prava mora. Ipak, mnoge države na Sredozemlju donekle su oklijevale s ovim proglašenjem jer je Europska unija pod utjecajem razvijenih obalnih država članica, smatrala da zatvorena ili poluzatvorena mora Sredozemlja nisu pogodna za proglašenje ovih pojaseva. Republika Hrvatska svoj isključivi gospodarski pojas proglasila je tek ove godine. No, mnogo ranije proglasila je zaštićeni ekološko-ribolovni pojas, čije proglašenje je donijelo nesuglasice s nekim državama s kojima dijeli morske granice.
Abstract (english)
The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea adopted in 1982. introduced the exclusive economic zone as a new legal regime and institute of international law of the sea. All coastal states have the right to declare their exclusive economic zone based on the Convention and on the basis of customary international law of the sea. However, many states on the Mediterranean were somewhat hesitant with this declaration because the European Union, influenced by developed coastal member states, considered that the closed or semiclosed seas of the Mediterranean are not suitable for declaring these zones. The Republic of Croatia declared its exclusive economic zone only this year. However, it declared a protected ecological-fishing zone much earlier, the declaration of which was brought disagreements with some countries with which it has sea borders.
